Ten years ago what is now Airway Meadows Golf Course consisted of a
family beef cattle farm and a small privately owned public airport, both
owned by Joan and James Heber. The Heber’s primary business was Heber
Excavating with the farm and airport operated mainly as hobbies due to
their love of agriculture and flying.
In 1997 a seed of an idea was planted as James (Jayme) was flying over
his property one day. That seed was nourished over the next few months
and soon grew into a design for an 18 hole public championship golf
course integrated into and around the existing farm land and airport.
The course promised to be both unique and beautiful and the final
product has exceeded all expectations.

January of 1998 found the Heber’s utilizing their excavating equipment
for a new purpose – turning a dream into reality. By mid 1999 the 18
hole golf course and clubhouse were open for business. Each year has
seen improvements to the course including the addition of the “Tunnel of
Love”, an actual tunnel built under the airport runway to shorten the
walk between holes.
Airway Meadows Golf Course is unique in many ways including the runway
for planes between the second and eighth fairways. The airfield is also
the home of “Saratoga Skydiving” and most days golfers will see not only
planes taking off and landing but can watch skydivers floating
gracefully to a landing at the bend of the eighth fairway dogleg. The
airport also offers a great opportunity for pilots to fly in and play.
The course has many ponds, creeks, and ravines traversed by New England
style covered bridges for riders and walkers as they journey around the
course. On several holes the farm’s beef cattle provide a spectator’s
gallery for those who enjoy being watched but get nervous in front of a
human audience.
The greatest pride of Joan and Jayme is the superb conditions at Airway
Meadows. This is due in large part to the excellent irrigation system
and the skills of course superintendent, Rob Fosmer. Airway Meadows G.C.
is consistently rated as having the best conditions in the area and was
recently awarded a four star rating by the readership of Golf Digest
magazine. You can find information in their “Best Places to Play by Golf
Digest 2004”.
In addition to a great golf course and
driving range with all grass tee,
Airway Meadows offers a clubhouse with lockers and showers and
facilities to handle meals for any size outing. For information they may
be contacted at 518-792-4144.
